Phillip Answers...

April 2007

Phillip answers some of our questions from the forum members:

Question: You've been in two musicals Joseph (which I loved) and Dr Dolittle, do you have a favourite and would you go back on the stage again? (Sharon)
Phillip's Answer: If I'm honest Joseph was my favourite because it was the first and at the Palladium. The opening night was an experience I'll never forget, a very special time of my life. I loved Dolittle for different reasons, mostly because it was a role that had never been done on stage before, so I could create it myself. I've made some really wonderful friends in the theatre and I'd love to get back on stage one day.

Question: Is there anything about showbusiness that really irritates you? (nessajones)
Phillip's Answer: Nope, it's a great and i'm always worried that one day I'll have to go and get a proper job! I know how lucky I am.

Question: I think you've got one of the best presenting jobs in the UK (and of course you're the best presenter!) but if you could take over from someone else famous for the day, who would it be/what job would you like to do? (Georgie)
Phillip's Answer: That's a tough one, there really isn't a presenting job I'd like to do that someone else has, I've got the best job in the morning and the best job on a Saturday night. Perhaps I'd like to have travelled as much as David Attenborough and witnessed the wonders he has seen.

Question: As a chef obviously I love cooking. What is your favorite meal? (loismax4)
Phillip's Answer: I love Chesapeake Bay soft shelled crabs, any Thai food and a great British Sunday roast... in fact there's not much I don't like.

Question: Finish this sentence: If I had the whole day off work I would..............? (ruth)
Phillip's Answer: Have a lie in, potter in the wine cellar, drink lots of tea, read some of my book, wander round the garden, go for a drive, have a swim, lie in the sun, fire up the bbq, open a very good bottle of red that I'd picked in the morning, then get out my telescope and look at the moon, getting increasingly lyrical as I got pissed!

Question: Where in the world would you really like to visit? (Karen)
Phillip's Answer: I've never been to South America, so that's a whole continent I've missed, the Galapagos islands and then Hong Kong.

Question: Phillip, just wondered if Molly and Ruby have any desire to follow in your footsteps into TV or theatre? They both came across so well on the video for your 25th anniversary! Would you mind if they did? (janet)
Phillip's Answer: Molly would like to do something on the telly, she's a keen actress. Ruby isn't at all interested and would like to be a gymnast.

Question: Who has been your favorite person to interview and also have you had any people who have been difficult in an interview? (kejan)
Phillip's Answer: Fern and I try to make even the most difficult and dull guests look good (not always easy). The other day we were interviewing someone 'off the telly' and realised we were so bored, we were both looking out of the window!! (they never knew of course, and I'd never give a name). We're also very lucky to have met some remarkable people, the most inspiring are nearly always the people who aren't famous and who have an amazing story. However, I love Catherine Tate, so she is always welcome, Judy Dench is the only person not ticked off my wish list and I'll forever regret that I didn't meet my idol Katharine Hepburn.

Question: Are you good at keeping secrets? (liz)
Phillip's Answer: The BEST!

Question: What kind of music do you like, and what was the last album you bought? (sarah)
Phillip's Answer: My Ipod is very varied! from Ella Fitzgerald to Foo Fighters, Orson and the Upper Room to Sammy Davis Jr. There's a bit of everything. The last album I bought was 'How to Save a Life' by The Fray.

Question: Is there any of your past show's you would like to bring back to our screen? (lesley1976)
Phillip's Answer: Don't think so, I wish Now or Never had worked, but other than that I'd prefer to look forward, not back.

Question: I'm assuming one day you'll move on from This Morning, What do you think you'll do next? I used to like listening to your Radio 1 show on a sunday years ago, would Radio ever call you back? (judet1415)
Phillip's Answer: No plans to leave just yet, but I do miss Radio a lot, if they'd have me back, that would be great. Not yet though.

Question: What's your favourite colour? (stacey)
Phillip's Answer: Blue.

Question: Have you got any pets? (madhattertom)
Phillip's Answer: An old cat called Peaches and the girls have a goldfish that I clean out and feed!

Question: What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done? (Lauren)
Phillip's Answer: Jumped out of a bush at me when I had a Starbucks Frappuccino in my hand .. we both got covered as I jumped out of my skin!!

And a couple that was answered on the forum at an earlier date:

Question: If you could interview anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why? (Sharon)
Phillip's Answer: I would have loved to have met/interviewed Katharine Hepburn. She was probably my only real hero. An amazing woman who would only do things her way.. There is a wonderful book by A Scott Berg, if you're a fan, you'll love it. Emma Forbes (who knew her, and whose middle name is Kate) got me an autograph, it's amongst my most prized possessions.

Question: If you hadn't been in showbusiness what profession would you have followed? (Sharon)
Phillip's Answer: If I hadn't been on the telly, I think I'd have liked to be a pilot.

A BIG thank you to Phillip for taking the time to answer our questions!!!
